BPW calls on the Cyprus government to reward the implementation of gender equality
On 18 April 2017 BPW Cyprus took a determined step towards greater gender equality in Cyprus.
Recognizing the need to offer companies powerful incentives to fight outdated practices, to resist a culture of ‘this is the way things have always been’, and to change the status quo, BPW Cyprus approached the Accountant General of the Republic of Cyprus with a memo that carried a clear message: a strong recommendation to the government to reward companies that have not merely adopted gender equality policies in theory, but are working towards their effective implementation.
In practice, BPW Cyprus proposed giving public procurement preference to such companies. In other words, companies that have been certified by the National Certification Authority, either as an Equal Opportunity Employer or for the implementation of Good Practices, should have a measurable advantage during the evaluation and selection process of the preferred bidder for any particular public tender.
With that, BPW Cyprus once again underlined its ongoing and hands-on support for women’s employment and entrepreneurship, for the benefit of society as a whole.
